Hiking, camping and 4WD in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley and Eastern Sierra

These days I'm driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser on desert dirt roads instead of the 10-ton bicycle of all those years past–and then hiking from there. Things change!

Instead of exploring the hills around Highland Lakes, we start hiking down the trail at once

Lots of blooming sunflower-like Mule ears (Wyethia) around the trailhead.
