Beautiful weather, this 16-mile out-and-back hike from Obsidian Campground feels easier than expected, I guess because the 2500-feet elevation gain is all gradual. Elevation during the hike ranges from 7675 to 9380 feet.
I've been wanting to visit the Mono Lake area for many years, but just never got up this way. It's more interesting than I expected. During the day we manage to drive a ring around the lake, on both highways and 4WD roads.
Sure, I just hiked here a month ago, but it was great, so why not do it again? Fortunately, no thunderstorms loom in the skies today like the last time I hiked here! Our hike is 8 miles round-trip with about 3000 feet of elevation gain.
